Parliament Question: Concert economy

GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF CULTURE RAJYA SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION No. 2270 TO BE ANSWERED ON 12.03.2026 CONCERT ECONOMY 2270. SHRI JAGGESH: Will the Minister of CULTURE be pleased to state:- (a) whether it is a fact that India's nascent 'concert economy' and creative industries have significant potential ; (b) whether the Ministry has proposed measures to streamline permissions and clearances for conducting events at heritage sites; (c) whether Government has conducted any assessment regarding the economic potential of India's concert economy and creative industries; (d) whether there are any proposals to develop infrastructure and improve last-mile connectivity at major cultural and heritage venues to facilitate large-scale events; and (e) if so, the details thereof? ANSWER MINISTER OF CULTURE AND TOURISM (SHRI GAJENDRA SINGH SHEKHAWAT) (a) The creative industries, including the concert and live entertainment sector, have the potential to contribute to cultural promotion, tourism and employment generation in the country. (b) The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has decentralized and streamlined the procedure for granting permissions for cultural events at protected monuments by authorising its field offices to issue such permissions. Further, ASI has identified certain pre-identified locations/areas within protected monuments for organising cultural events, subject to feasibility, and has formulated Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) along with a list of permitted events.(c) No specific assessment regarding the economic potential of India’s concert economy and creative industries has been conducted. (d)&(e) Development of infrastructure and improvement of connectivity at cultural and heritage sites are undertaken from time to time by the concerned Ministries/Departments and State Governments under their respective schemes and programmes. *******
