Parliament Question: Conservation and development of iconic sites in Telangana

GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF CULTURE RAJYA SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO. *287 ANSWERED ON 19.03.2026 CONSERVATION AND DEVELOPMENT OF ICONIC SITES IN TELANGANA *287. DR. K. LAXMAN: Will the Minister of CULTURE be pleased to state: (a) the specific initiatives undertaken for conservation and development of iconic sites in Telangana such as the Ramappa Temple (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) and the Bhadrachalam Temple complex; (b) how these initiatives are boosting cultural tourism, preserving national heritage and generating local employment; and (c) the vision for promoting India’s rich cultural and spiritual legacy on the global stage? ANSWER MINISTER OF CULTURE AND TOURISM (SHRI GAJENDRA SINGH SHEKHAWAT) (a) to (c): A statement is laid on the table of the House.STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PART (a) to (c) OF THE RAJYA SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO. *287 FOR 19.03.2026. (a) There are eight protected monuments under the jurisdiction of Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) in the State of Telangana including Ramappa Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage property. ASI takes up conservation and preservation works of these monuments/sites as per the need and availability of resources subject to the National Policy for Conservation which is a continuous process. The details of major conservation works executed in the state of Telangana including Ramappa Temple during the last three years and current financial year are given at Annexure-I. However, Bhadrachalam Temple complex is not a protected monument. (b) Maintenance of monuments, environmental development and other works taken up by ASI at Ramappa temple results in its better preservation to visitors. Further, ASI provides tourist facilities like toilet, drinking water etc. for tourists. Ministry of Tourism under its scheme “National Mission on Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual, Heritage Augmentation Drive (PRASHAD)” provides Financial Assistance to the Government of Telangana for development of pilgrimage and heritage tourism infrastructure at Rudhreshwara (Ramappa) Temple. Further, State Government also takes various initiatives at their level for boosting cultural tourism. (c) Ministry of Culture administers Global Engagement Scheme through artists from diverse cultural fields such as Folk Art including Folk Music, Folk Dance, Folk Theatre & Puppetry, Classical and Traditional Dance, Experimental/ Contemporary Dance, Classical/ Semi Classical Music, Theatre etc. perform in the banner of 'Festivals of India' abroad.
