Parliament Question: Conservation and Preservation of Historical Monuments and Cultural Heritage

GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF CULTURE LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO.†1342 TO BE ANSWERED ON 27.07.2026 CONSERVATION AND PRESERVATION OF HISTORICAL MONUMENTS AND CULTURAL HERITAGE †1342. Shri Jai Prakash: Shri SatpalBrahamchari: Will the Minister of CULTURE be pleased to state: (a) whether the Government is aware of the fact that there is a lack of adequate budget, plans and pace for the conservation, preservation, maintenance, restoration and development of ancient mounds, stepwells, forts, temples and other historical and religious heritage including GuzarKhedi and other archaeological sites, Pandu PindaraDham in Jind district located in the Hisar and SonipatLok Sabha constituencies of Haryana; (b) whether any survey and preservation and conservation work for these heritage sites have been undertaken by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), the Ministry of Culture or any other competent agencies and if so, the details thereof; (c) the details of the funds approved/sanctioned and utilised for the conservation, restoration and tourism development of historical monuments and heritage in the said constituencies, during the last three years; (d) whether any new plan proposed by the Government to preserve these heritage sites and develop them on the national tourism map as well as cultural heritage; and (e) if so, the details thereof along with expected timeline and the anticipated benefits? ANSWER MINISTER OF CULTURE AND TOURISM (SHRI GAJENDRA SINGH SHEKHAWAT) (a) There are total 93 centrally protected monuments under the care and maintenance of Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) in the State of Haryana and all are in good state of preservation. ASI takes up conservation and preservation work as per the need of the monument and availability of resources. There is adequate budget, plans and pace for the conservation of centrally protected monuments. However, GuzarKhedi and Pandu PindaraDham are not centrally protected monument under the jurisdiction of ASI. (b) No survey, preservation and conservation work for GuzarKhedi and Pandu PindaraDham have been undertaken by the ASI. (c) The details of expenditure incurred on the conservation works of centrally protected monuments in Hisar and Sonipat constituencies are attached as Annexure I.(d) The development of tourism infrastructure at tourist destinations, including heritage cities, & is primarily undertaken by the concerned State Governments or Union Territory (e) Administrations. However, the Ministry of Tourism, under its “Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual, Heritage Augmentation Drive” (PRASHAD) Scheme, provides financial assistance to State Governments (SGs) and Union Territory Administrations (UTAs) for the development of tourism-related infrastructure at identified religious and heritage sites across the country, including the State of Haryana. The Ministry of Tourism has sanctioned 1 project "Development of Mata Mansa Devi Temple and Nada SahebGurudwara in Panchkula District" at the cost of Rs. 48.53 Crore.Annexure-I ANNEXURE REFFERED TO IN REPLY TO PART (c) OF THE LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. †1342FOR 27.07.2026.
