GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF CIVIL AVIATION LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO. : 77 ( TO BE ANSWERED ON THE 23rd July 2026 ) CONSTRUCTION OF AIRPORT IN SHEOHAR 77. SMT LOVELY ANAND Will the Minister of CIVIL AVIATION be pleased to state:- (a) whether the Government has conducted any commercial and technical study to assess the need for air connectivity in Sheohar in view of the increasing tourist inflow in the region, particularly at Punaura Dham (Sitamarhi) and if so, the details thereof; (b) whether it is a fact that pilgrims and tourists have to undertake a long road journey as the nearest airports at Darbhanga and Patna are located at a considerable distance and if so, the details thereof; and (c) whether the Union Government proposes to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR), in consultation with the State Government of Bihar, for construction of a new airport in Sheohar district adjacent to Punaura Dham or for providing air connectivity under the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS)- UDAN and if so, the details thereof along with the timeline fixed in this regard? ANSWER Minister of CIVIL AVIATION (Shri Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu) (a) to (c): A statement is laid on the table of the House. ******STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (A) TO (C) OF LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO. 77* FOR REPLY ON 23.07.2026 REGARDING "CONSTRUCTION OF AIRPORT IN SHEOHAR" ASKED BY SMT. LOVELY ANAND (a) to (c): As per Greenfield Airports (GFA) Policy, 2008, if any airport developer including the State Government desires to develop an airport, they are required to identify a suitable site and get the Pre-feasibility Study conducted for construction of airport and submit a proposal to Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) for 'Site Clearance' followed by 'In-Principle' approval. After getting Site Clearance, Project Proponent is required to get the Detailed Project Report (DPR) prepared and submit it along with the application seeking In-Principle approval. No proposal seeking Site Clearance for development of a Greenfield airport at Sheohar has been received from any airport developer. The objective of RCS-UDAN Scheme is to provide connectivity to the existing unserved and underserved airstrips in the country. ******
