GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF DEFENCE DEPARTMENT OF DEFENCE PRODUCTION LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION No. 5584 TO BE ANSWERED ON 27th MARCH, 2026 CONTRACTUAL EMPLOYEES IN DPSUs AND ORDNANCE FACTORIES 5584. SHRI AJENDRA SINGH LODHI Will the Minister of DEFENCE be pleased to state: (a) the total number of contractual employees currently working in Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs) and Ordnance Factory units, category-wise; (b) whether the Government has details of such contractual employees who were previously working in permanent positions in Ordnance Factory units and if so, the details thereof; (c) whether the Government is aware that contractual employees working in hazardous production units do not have adequate access to medical facilities, risk allowance, casual leave and promotion opportunities; (d) if so, the details thereof along with the steps being taken by the Government to improve the welfare and service conditions of these employees; and (e) the details of sanctioned posts, filled posts and vacant posts in DPSUs during the last ten years, year-wise? A N S W E R MINISTER OF STATE (SHRI SANJAY SETH) IN THE MINISTRY OF DEFENCE (a) The total number of contractual employees (Fixed term) working in Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs) including the 07 New DPSUs carved out from erstwhile OFB are 11,863 as on 13.03.2026. (b) There are no such contractual employees who were previously working in permanent position in Ordnance Factory units as erstwhile Ordnance Factory Board ceased to exist with effect from 01.10.2021.
