CONTRIBUTION OF TEXTILE SECTOR IN INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTION AND
EMPLOYMENT GENERATION
1756. SHRI RAJENDRA GEHLOT:
Will the Minister of TEXTILES be pleased to state:
(a) the current status of the textile industry in the country and the details of its contribution to industrial
production and employment generation;
(b) whether Government has taken any steps to promote employment in the textile industry, if so, the details
thereof;
(c) whether any measures have been taken by Government to enhance investment, to modernize the weaving
and processing sectors, and to promote exports in order to expand the traditional and local textile industry in
Rajasthan; and
(d) if so, the year-wise details thereof including the funds allocated and utilized for this purpose during the last
three years?
ANSWER
THE MINISTER OF STATE FOR TEXTILES

(a): The Indian Textile and Apparel Industry contribute around 2% to the GDP and nearly 11% of
industrial production. The textile industry is one of the largest sources of employment in the country,
estimated to be directly employing over 45 million people.
(b): The Government of India is implementing various schemes/initiatives aimed at promoting the textile
sector pan India including in Rajasthan. The major schemes/initiatives include Production Linked Incentive
(PLI) Scheme focusing on Man Made Fibre & Apparel, and Technical Textiles to boost large scale
manufacturing and enhancing competitiveness; National Technical Textiles Mission focusing on Research
Innovation & Development, Promotion and Market Development, Skilling and Export Promotion;
SAMARTH – Scheme for Capacity Building in Textile Sector with the objective providing demand driven,
placement oriented, skilling program; National Handloom Development Programme (NHDP) and National
Handicraft Development Programme (NHDP) for end to end support for handloom and handicraft sectors
etc.
(c): To enhance investment and modernize the weaving and processing sectors, Ministry of Textiles
through Office of the Textile Commissioner implemented Amended Technology Upgradation Fund Scheme
(ATUFS) in which subsidy of 10% of eligible machine cost is provided to units for installation of brand new
benchmark machinery.
Further, Under Scheme for Integrated Textile Park (SITP) 03 projects (i.e., Next Gen Textile Park Pvt
Ltd., Pali, Kishangarh Hi-Tech Textile Weaving Park Ltd, Ajmer & Jaipur Integrated Texcraft Park Pvt Ltd.,
Jaipur) have been approved.Under Integrated Processing Development Scheme (IPDS), 05 projects (i.e. Balotra Water Pollution
Control Treatment & Reverse Osmosis Private Ltd, Balotra, Jasol Water Pollution Control Treatment &
Reverse Osmosis Private Limited, Balotra, Sanganer Enviro Project Development, Jaipur, Nextgen Textile
Park, Pali & Pali Common Effluent Treatment Plant, Pali) have been approved.
(d): Year-wise fund disbursed under ATUFS for the State of Rajasthan during last 03 years is as under: -
