Parliament Question: Conversion of ESIC hospital in Visakhapatnam

GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF LABOUR AND EMPLOYMENT RAJYA SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 744 TO BE ANSWERED ON 05.02.2026 CONVERSION OF ESIC HOSPITAL IN VISAKHAPATNAM 744. SHRI GOLLA BABURAO: Will the Minister of Labour and Employment be pleased to state: (a) whether it is a fact that Government has decided to convert ESIC hospital in Visakhapatnam to the level of medical college; (b) if so, the details thereof; and (c) by when the above hospital is likely to become a medical college? ANSWER MINISTER OF STATE FOR LABOUR AND EMPLOYMENT (SUSHRI SHOBHA KARANDLAJE) (a) to (c): In order to enhance the availability of medical education and to strengthen healthcare delivery for ESI beneficiaries across the country, Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) has identified 10 ESIC/Employees’ State Insurance Scheme (ESIS) hospitals including the ESIS hospital at Visakhapatnam for establishment of medical colleges. The upgradation of the ESIS hospital into Medical College is undertaken in accordance with the norms prescribed by the National Medical Commission (NMC) subsequent to the handover of the hospital by State Government to ESIC. Handing over of the ESIS Hospital Vishakhapatnam by the State Government to ESIC is awaited. *****
