Parliament Question: Critical Care Services at GMCH, Chandigarh

GOVERNMENTOFINDIA MINISTRYOFHEALTH AND FAMILYWELFARE DEPARTMENTOFHEALTH AND FAMILYWELFARE LOK SABHA UNSTARREDQUESTION NO. 4830 TO BE ANSWEREDON20.03.2026 CRITICALCARE SERVICES ATGMCH, CHANDIGARH 4830.SHRIMANISH TEWARI: Will the MINISTER OFHEALTHAND FAMILYWELFAREbe pleasedtoState: (a) whether the Government has taken note of reports that a large number of ventilators supplied during the COVID-19 pandemic at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, Chandigarhare lyingnon-functional affectingcritical care services andif so, the detailsthereof; (b) the total number of ventilators supplied and the number currently functional along with the reasons for those thatare non-functional includingissues of maintenanceandavalability of spare parts; (c) whether there are shortages of ventilator and trained staff is facing shortages of technical staff, including the absence of ventilators, ventilator technicians and trained staff at the Trauma Centre at GMCH-32 andshortages of nursing andparamedicalstaff at GMCH-32, if so, the detailsthereof; and (d) the steps taken by the Government to repair non- functional equipments, fill up vacancies and strengthen critical care infrastructure inthe said hospitals at Chandigarh? ANSWER THE MINISTER OFSTATE INTHE MINISTRYOFHEALTHAND FAMILYWELFARE (SHRIPRATAPRAO JADHAV) (a) to(d): Ministry of Health andFamilyWelfare, Government of India has assisted the States/UTs from the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic by, inter-alia, providing Medical Equipment like PPEs, N-95 Mask, Ventilatorsfree of cost. The Government of India provided total 99 Ventilators toGovernment Medical College and Hospital (GMCH),ChandigarhduringCovid 19.GMCHhasreportedthatasof now,35ventilatorsarefunctional. Further, GMCH has reported that Trauma Centre has sufficient doctors and nursing staff. All ICU equipmentarecoveredunderComprehensive AnnualMaintenance Contracts(CAMC). *******
