Shri Bunty Vivek Sahu: Will the Minister of COAL be pleased to state: (a) whether Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) and South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) are undertaking works under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) during the last two years in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh and if so, the details thereof; (b) whether any assessment has been carried out to identify the positive effects of works undertaken under CSR by coal companies; (c) if so, the details thereof; and (d) the details of the works sanctioned in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh along with the time by which the said works are likely to be completed? ANSWER MINISTER OF COAL AND MINES (SHRI G. KISHAN REDDY) (a): Yes. Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) and South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) both have undertaken Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) works in Madhya Pradesh and in Chattisgarh respectively during the last two years. These evaluations highlight significant contributions in areas such as healthcare, education, skill development, rural development, and environmental sustainability. As a result, there have been notable improvements in living standards, infrastructure development, and community awareness of sustainable practices. To ensure effectiveness, CSR outcomes are assessed through a combination of methods, including field-level monitoring by implementing agencies and company officials, feedback from beneficiaries and local authorities (including district administrations), and third-party impact assessments for large-scale or flagship projects. These systematic evaluations collectively underscore the positive transformation brought about by the company’s CSR efforts in its operational areas.
