GOVERNMENTOFINDIA MINISTRYOFHEALTH AND FAMILYWELFARE DEPARTMENTOFHEALTH AND FAMILYWELFARE LOK SABHA UNSTARREDQUESTION NO. 4750 TO BE ANSWERED ON20th MARCH,2026 CURB ILLEGALSEXDETERMINATION OFFOETUSES †4750: SHRIBHAUSAHEB RAJARAM WAKCHAURE: Will the MINISTER of HEALTH ANDFAMILYWELFAREbe pleased tostate : (a) whether in compliance with the directions of the Supreme Court, the Central government hasissued instructions toallStates tocurbillegalsex determinationof foetuses in the country byseizing ultrasound machinesbeing used inunregistered andunlicensedclinics; and (b) if so, the details thereof along with the action taken by the Union and State Governments inthisregard? ANSWER THE MINISTER OFSTATE IN THE MINISTRYOFHEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE (SMT.ANUPRIYAPATEL) (a) & (b): The Central government has issued an advisory to all the States and Union Territories to ensure compliance with the directions of the Hon'ble Supreme Court to implementthe provisions of PC&PNDTAct, 1994andthe Rulesmade there under. The actionstakenbythe Union andStateGovernmentsinthisregardismentionedbelow:  Under the National HealthMission (NHM), the Ministry provides financialsupport to the States/UTs tostrengthen implementation of the PC&PNDTAct.  Nodal Agency constituted to monitor & facilitate the removal of online advertisementsviolating the provisions of the Act.  Sensitizationand capacitybuildingactivitiesof States & UTsare heldregularly.  Regular review & assessment through various institutional mechanisms like Central Supervisory Board (CSB), State Supervisory Board (SSB) and Common Review Mission (CRM) visits carriedout bythe Centre in coordinationwith the states.  Regularmonitoringandinspection visits are carriedout at the State & district level.  Information, Education & Communication, advocacy activities, including public awareness drives through print and digital media are undertaken to promote behaviouralchange andgender equality.  National Girl Child Day, International Day of the Girl Child, and International Women’sDay are observed everyyearacross the country tocreatepublic awareness. *****
