(a) whether there is an inordinate delay in the construction of AIIMS, Madurai and if so the
details of the current status of construction along with the steps taken by the Government to
expeditethe completion of the same;
(b) the amount of the funds provided by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and
the Union Government alongwith the reasons for the delayingettingfunds from JICA; and
(c) the amount of funds spent so far for the construction of AllMS, Madurai and time by
which the construction of the said islikelytobe completed

(a) to (c) Under Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY), All India Institute of
Medical Science (AIIMS) Madurai has been approved at a cost of Rs. 2021.51 crore. The
progress of the construction work of the Institute is 42% as on 30.11.2025. Till date, the
Ministry has released Rs. 421.02 crore for construction of AIIMS Madurai. The project is
being funded under Extra Budgetary Resources (EBR) through Japan International
Cooperation Agency (JICA) with a loan limited to Japanese Yen 22,788,000,000. As per the
Loan Agreement signed between Government of Japan and Government of India in March,
2021,the target date of completionof the projectisOctober, 2026.
The progress of the project and release of funds are being regularly monitored at the
level of the Institute and the Ministry. A steering committee has also been constituted under
the Chairpersonship of Principal Secretary (Health), Government of Tamil Nadu to monitor
andfacilitate smooth implementationof the project.
