Parliament Question: Development of Infrastructure at Tourist Places

SHRI RAKESH RATHOR: Will the Minister of TOURISM be pleased to state: (a) whether the Government proposed to formulate any schemes to develop better infrastructure at tourist places of the country; (b) whether the Government is contemplating to formulate any special scheme for the betterment of the tourists places of rural and remote areas of the country; (c) if so, the details thereof; and (d) the number of rural tourist places lagging behind due to lack of amenities? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF TOURISM (SHRI GAJENDRA SINGH SHEKHAWAT) (a) to (d): Development and promotion of tourist destinations including rural tourist places is primarily undertaken by the respective State Government/Union Territory (UT) Administration. However, the Ministry of Tourism through its central sector schemes of ‘Swadesh Darshan (SD)’, Swadesh Darshan 2.0 (SD2.0), ‘Challenge Based Destination Development (CBDD)’ – a sub-scheme of Swadesh Darshan, ‘Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual, Heritage Augmentation Drive (PRASHAD)’ and ‘Assistance to Central Agencies (ACA) for Tourism Infrastructure Development’ schemes complements the efforts of tourism infrastructure development by extending financial assistance to the State Governments/UT Administrations/ Central Agencies. In addition, Government of India under its initiative for ‘Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) has also provided financial assistance to the States for development of tourism projects. Projects under the above mentioned schemes are sanctioned in various destination across the country including those in rural and remote areas.Details of sanctioned projects under the SD, SD2.0, CBDD, PRASHAD, ACA and SASCI schemes is annexed. Further, with the aim to promote tourism in tribal areas, the Ministry of Tourism has also issued guidelines for 'Development of Homestays in Tribal Areas' along with template for formulation of proposal to develop tribal homestays to the State Governments and UT Administrations.
