GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF CULTURE RAJYA SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION No. 3068 TO BE ANSWERED ON 19.03.2026 “DEVELOPMENT OF MUSEUMS” 3068. SHRI A. D. SINGH: Will the Minister of CULTURE be pleased to state: (a) the number of museums functioning under the Ministry and their annual footfall during the last three years; (b) the progress made under the Museum Grant Scheme and modernization of national museums; and (c) whether Government proposes to set up new regional or thematic museums to promote local culture and history? ANSWER MINISTER OF CULTURE AND TOURISM (GAJENDRA SINGH SHEKHAWAT) (a) The number of museums functioning under the Ministry of Culture and their annual footfall during the last three years are at Annexure-I (b) Under the Museum Grant Scheme Ministry of Culture has established 21 new museums and development of 23 existing museums, 01 Digitization of museum collections and 01 Virtual Experiential Museum during the last five years as per details given at Annexure-II.
