* Initiatives include IEC campaigns, demand registration expansion, participatory planning in Gram Sabhas, and Rozgar Diwas organization.
Employment Cap and Additional Support:
* MGNREGA guarantees at least 100 days of wage employment to households whose adult members volunteer for unskilled manual work.
* An additional 50 days of wage employment are mandated for every ST household in a forest area (with FRA land rights only).
* Up to 50 additional days are provided in drought/natural calamity-affected areas.

(b) the number of Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST)
beneficiaries who availed and completed 100 days of
employment under the scheme during the said period;
(c) the percentage share of SC/ST workers in total MGNREGS
employment across all States, State and district-wise;
(d) the measures taken by the Government to ensure greater
inclusion and participation of SC/ST households in rural
employment schemes; and

(a): Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee
Scheme (Mahatma Gandhi NREGS) is a demand driven wage
employment Scheme. It provides livelihood security, i.e. fall back
options for livelihood for the rural households, when no better
employment opportunity is available.
State/Union Territory(UT)-wise details of households who have
completed 100 days of employment under Mahatma Gandhi NREGS in
the last five financial years from 2020-21 to 2024-25 are given in
Annexure-I.
The details of households who have completed 100 days
employment in Shahdol Lok Sabha Constituency of Madhya Pradesh

(d): The Government of India is committed to provide adequate
employment opportunities to willing eligible rural households
including Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) under
Mahatma Gandhi NREGS as per their demand. During the current
financial year 2025-26 (as on 08.08.2025), 99.79% of the eligible rural
households who demanded employment under the scheme have been
offered work. During the same period, out of the total person days
generated under the Mahatma Gandhi NREGS, 17.98% was generated
for Scheduled Castes (SC), while 17.42% was generated for
Scheduled Tribes (ST).
The Central Government has initiated several measures to
generate awareness about the scheme. These include, (i) to initiate
Page 3 of 6appropriate Information Education and Communication (IEC)
campaigns including wall paintings for the wide dissemination of the
provisions of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment
Guarantee Act, 2005, (ii) to expand scope and coverage of demand
registration system to ensure that demand for work under Mahatma
Gandhi NREGA does not go unregistered, (iii) prepare plans in a
participatory mode and approve them in the Gram Sabha, (iv)
Organization of ‘Rozgar Diwas’.
The Ministry continues to closely monitor the implementation of
the scheme and provides necessary support to States to ensure that
all eligible rural households are able to access employment as per
their demand under the Mahatma Gandhi NREGS.
(e): The Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act
(Mahatma Gandhi NREGA), 2005, is an Act to provide for the
enhancement of livelihood security of the households in rural areas
of the country by providing at least one hundred days of guaranteed
wage employment in every financial year to every household whose
adult members volunteer to do unskilled manual work.
The Ministry mandates the provision of an additional 50 days of
wage employment (beyond the stipulated 100 days) to every
Scheduled Tribe Household in a forest area, provided that these
households have no other private property except for the land rights
provided under the Forest Rights Act (FRA), 2006.
In addition to this, there is a provision for providing up to an
additional 50 days of wage employment in a financial year in
drought/natural calamity-affected notified rural areas. Further, as per
Section 3(4) of the Act, the State Governments may make provision
for providing additional days of employment beyond the period
guaranteed under the Act from their own funds.
