ENSURING PROPER TREATMENTOFPATIENTS IN AIIMS, NEWDELHI
1254. DR.V.SIVADASAN:
Will the Minister of HEALTH AND FAMILYWELFARE be pleasedtostate:
(a) whether Government is aware that patients and their attendants are forced to lie outside
wards andOPDareasat AIIMS, New Delhi, evenduring extreme coldweather;
(b) whether any winter preparedness protocol exists for Central Government hospitals
includingAIIMS;
(c) the sanctioned bed strength at AIIMS, New Delhi vis-à-vis actual patient inflow during
the last three years;
(d) the reasons for the acute shortage of bedsandwaitingspace; and
(e) the immediate measures taken to provide shelter, heating and basic facilities to such
patients?

(a) to (e): AIIMS, New Delhi receives high patient load including referrals from various
hospitals across the country. The sanctioned bed strength and patients treated in OPD/IPD in
AIIMS, New Delhi during the last three years isasgivenbelow:

To assist patients and their attendants, Shelter Homes/Vishram Sadans are operational at five
locations with provision of over 1500 beds with facilities for clean drinking water, toilets, e-
vehicles etc. In addition, to cope with extreme cold weather, Delhi Urban Shelter
Improvement Board (DUSIB), Government of NCT of Delhi has set up and operationalized
10-bedded40night shelters for patients andtheirattendants.
