Will the Minister of HEALTHANDFAMILYWELFARE be pleased tostate:
(a) whether Government are aware that establishing an AIIMS in Meerut is a critical need,
driven bythe city’srole asa major hub for western Uttar Pradesh,itsgrowing populationand
itsstrategic location andexcellentconnectivitywith neighboring districts andStates;
(b) whether it is a fact that establishing AIIMS at Meerut will decongest and reduce patient
burden on AIIMS, New Delhi and fulfil regional demand as western Uttar Pradesh with
massive population relying on the overloaded New Delhi, AIIMS for super-specialty
treatment;and
(c)if so, whether Government proposes toestablish AIIMS at Meerut onpriority?

(a)to(c)Under PradhanMantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana(PMSSY),till date establishment of
22All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) has been approved in various States/UTs in
the country including 2 AIIMS in Uttar Pradesh, one at Raebareli and the other at Gorakhpur.
Both Institutes are functional.
Further, under another component of PMSSY, upgradation of Lala Lajpat Rai Memorial
Medical College in Meerut has been undertaken on Centre-State cost sharing by way of
construction of 200 bedded Super Speciality Block having 8 departments i.e Cardiology,
CTVS, Pediatric Surgery, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Nephrology, Burn & Reconstruction
Surgery and Radiotherapy. Under PMSSY, there is no proposal for establishment of a new
AIIMS at Meerut inUttar Pradesh.
