GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF LABOUR AND EMPLOYMENT LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 122 TO BE ANSWERED ON 20.07.2026 ESTABLISHMENT AND UPGRADATION OF ESIC HOSPITALS IN KERALA 122. SHRI KODIKUNNIL SURESH: Will the Minister of LABOUR AND EMPLOYMENT be pleased to state: (a)whether the Government proposes to establish a new Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) Medical College in Kerala and if so, the details thereof; (b)whether the Government has received any proposal from the Government of Kerala or the ESIC for establishing a new ESIC Medical College in the said State and if so, the present status thereof; (c)whether the Government has examined the feasibility of upgrading ESIC Hospital, Ezhukone, Kollam into a Super Speciality/Medical College Hospital with advanced diagnostic and tertiary care facilities for insured persons and beneficiaries in southern Kerala and if so, the details thereof; (d)the details of infrastructure development, modernization, additional departments, superspeciality services and staff augmentation proposed or sanctioned for ESIC Hospital, Ezhukone; and (e)the steps taken proposed to be taken by the Government to strengthen ESIC healthcare infrastructure in Kerala, including the timeline for implementation of the above proposals? ANSWER MINISTER OF STATE FOR LABOUR AND EMPLOYMENT (SUSHRI SHOBHA KARANDLAJE) (a) to (e): Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) has approved a 50 MBBS seats Medical College in Kerala by utilizing the existing infrastructure of ESIC Hospital, Asramam, Kollam, Kerala. An Essentiality Certificate has also been received from the Government of Kerala for setting up of 50 MBBS seats at ESIC Hospital, Asramam, Kollam. Contd..2/-:: 2 :: ESI Hospitals provide multi-specialty secondary healthcare services in disciplines such as Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Orthopaedics, Paediatrics, and other specialties. Inpatient care is supported through Intensive Care Unit (ICU)/ High Dependency Unit (HDU) facilities, and the hospitals offer comprehensive preventive, promotive, curative, and rehabilitative healthcare services. ESIC Hospitals and Medical Colleges are established as per ESIC norms. ESIC Hospital, Ezhukone is already equipped with a wide range of medical facilities and services, including Medicine, Surgery, Paediatrics, Orthopaedics, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Dental, Ophthalmology, Chest/Pulmonology, ENT, Medical Oncology, Chemotherapy Unit, Ayurveda and Panchakarma, Homeopathy, Radiology, Physiotherapy, Dietary Services, Yoga, Medical Social Work, Accident & Emergency, Central Sterile Supply Department (CSSD), Operation Theatre, Medical ICU, Neonatal ICU, Surgical ICU, Laundry, Blood Storage Unit, Biochemistry, Clinical Pathology, Microbiology, Pharmacy and Medical Records Department (MRD). The construction and upgradation of 100 bedded ESIS Hospital at Ernakulum North has been approved by ESI Corporation and the work has been awarded to CPWD. ESI Corporation has also approved the setting up of a 100-bedded ESIC Hospital in Idukki district, Kerala and the construction work for the project has also been awarded to a Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) construction agency. *****
