Will the MINISTER OF HEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE be pleased to
state:
(a) whether the Government has received any proposal or representation seeking the
establishment of an All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Peddapalli
Constituency of Telangana;
(b) if so, the details thereof;
(c) whether the Government has examined the suitability of Peddapalli for
establishing/setting up an AIIMS considering factors such as its central location,
availability of adequate land, road and rail connectivity and the healthcare needs of the
region, if so, the details thereof;
(d) whether any technical or feasibility assessment has been conducted or proposed by
the Government to evaluate the requirement for an AIIMS in the Peddapalli
Constituency, if so, the details thereof; and
(e) whether the Government proposes to sanction an AIIMS at Peddapalli in the near
future, if so, the details thereof along with the steps proposed to be taken to address the
healthcare gaps in North Telangana?

(a) to (e) Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY) aims at correcting
regional imbalances in the availability of affordable/reliable tertiary health care services
and augmenting facilities for quality medical education in the country. Till date, under the
scheme establishment of 22 All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) has been
approved in various States/UTs, including AIIMS at Bibinagar in Telangana. Requests
have been received in the Ministry for establishment of AIIMS in various parts of the
country, including Peddapalli, Telangana. There is no proposal for establishment of an
AIIMS in Peddapalli under the PMSSY.
Further, for expansion and strengthening of tertiary healthcare facilities in the State of
Telangana under another component of PMSSY, upgradation of 3 Government Medical
Colleges (GMCs) on Centre-State cost sharing basis has been undertaken by way of
construction of Super Specialty Blocks, which include (i) Nizam Institute of Medical
Sciences, Hyderabad (ii) Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences,Adilabad and
(iii) Kakatiya Medical College, Warangal.
Under the National Health Mission (NHM), technical and financial support is provided to
