ESTABLISHMENT OF KVKS
811. SMT. SAGARIKA GHOSE:
Will the Minister of AGRICULTURE AND FARMERS WELFARE be pleased to state:
(a) whether it is a fact that only 15 new Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) have been established during
the last five years;
(b) if so, the reasons for the slow pace of setting up new KVKs;
(c) the reasons for the absence of KVKs in 121 districts across the country;
(d) the present number of vacant posts in KVKs nationwide;
(e) the proposed timeline for establishing KVKs in the remaining 121 districts; and
(f) the budget sanctioned and utilized by the KVKs in the last five years?
ANSWER

(a) to (c): Yes. The process of establishment of KVK in the district is considered only after receiving of
requisite approvals, fulfilment of essential criteria and availability of funds. As per ID No. 01(03)/2024-
E-Coord.II dated 29.07.2024 and 30.12.2024 received from Ministry of Finance, obtaining the approval of
the Committee on Establishment Expenditure (CEE) is mandatory prior to establishment of new KVKs.
(d): There are total 3741 vacant posts in KVKs nationwide.
(e): Opening of new KVKs in newly created districts is a continuous process as per the prescribed
procedure and guidelines.
(f): Details of budget sanctioned and utilized in last 5 years in KVKs.
