3534. SHRI DURAI VAIKO:
Will the Minister of CULTURE be pleased to state:
(a) whether the Government is aware that while Tiruchirappalli has a well-established district
museum under the State Department of Museums, there is no separate Archaeological Survey of
India (ASI) maintained museum in the city, despite the creation of a dedicated ASI Trichy Circle
in 2020 to manage heritage assets in the region;
(b) whether the Government has any plans to establish an ASI operated museum or gallery in
Trichy to display artefacts, inscriptions, and heritage collections from the numerous ASI-
protected monuments in the Trichy sub-circle;
(c) whether ASI intends to construct a site museum or interpretative centre in Tiruchirappalli and
integrate local underexplored sites from the Trichy list; and
(d) if so, the timeline, funding provisions, and collaboration with the State Government or local
heritage bodies to establish such a museum and enrich cultural tourism and education?

(a) Yes, Sir. Tiruchirappalli has a district museum under the State Department of Museums,
Govt. of Tamil Nadu.
(b)& (c)At present, there is no such proposal in Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to create a
museum. However, ASI created a dedicated Trichy Circle to protect, conserve monuments and
the antiquarian wealth. ASI has recently developed the excavated archaeological site at
Adichanallur, where excavated remains are provided with glass coverings and shed, under the
Trichy Circle.
