Parliament Question: Evaluation of SDS and PRASHAD Schemes

SHRI BABU SINGH KUSHWAHA: Will the Minister of TOURISM be pleased to state: (a) whether the development of heritage sites under the Swadesh Darshan Scheme and Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Heritage Augmentation Drive (PRASHAD) Scheme has been successful in promoting tourism; (b) the number of projects completed under these schemes during the last five years and the percentage of increment took place in generating local employments; (c) whether the Government has entered into partnership with the private sector and local communities to promote cultural tourism; and (d) if so, the details and the outcomes thereof? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF TOURISM (SHRI GAJENDRA SINGH SHEKHAWAT) (a) to (d): The Ministry of Tourism, through its ongoing Central Sector Schemes of Swadesh Darshan (SD) and Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual, Heritage Augmentation Drive (PRASHAD) supplements the efforts of the State Governments (SGs) and Union Territories (UTs) by providing financial assistance for tourism infrastructure development, including heritage sites. Under the Swadesh Darshan Scheme, out of 76 sanctioned projects, 75 projects have been physically completed and under the PRASHAD Scheme, out of 54 sanctioned projects, 32 projects have beenphysically completed. The list of the projects completed under Swadesh Darshan and PRASHAD Scheme is Annexed. Under these schemes, the Ministry seeks to develop tourism infrastructure in a holistic manner with the objective of boosting tourism, generating employment, and strengthening the local economy. The Ministry encourages active stakeholder participation and engagement of local communities in order to promote sustainable and inclusive tourism development. Further, the States/UTs are required to ensure the sustainable operation and maintenance of completed projects.
