EXPANSION OF ELIGIBILITY UNDER PMIS

Will the Minister of CORPORATE AFFAIRS be pleased to state:
(a) the number of internship opportunities offered, students registered and placed
under the Prime Minister Internship Scheme since its launch, State/UT-wise and
year-wise, including details for Andhra Pradesh;
(b) whether the Government has expanded the eligibility criteria under the Prime
Minister Internship Scheme (PMIS) to include final-year undergraduate and
postgraduate students, if so, the objectives behind the said decision;
(c) the number of students who have registered and enrolled under PMIS after the
revised eligibility criteria came into effect, State/UT-wise, particularly in
Chikkaballapur district in Karnataka and Anantapur, Palnadu and Kakinada
districts in Andhra Pradesh;
(d) the number of internship opportunities offered and students placed through
PMIS in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh following the revised eligibility norms;
(e) whether the Government has undertaken any awareness or outreach
programme in higher educational institutions to promote the Scheme, if so, the
details thereof in Karnataka particularly in Chikkaballapur district and Andhra
Pradesh, including Anantapur, Palnadu and Kakinada districts;
(f) the number of companies and sectors participating in the Scheme and whether
Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and start-ups have been included
alongside large corporates, if so, the details thereof; and
(g) the steps taken to promote the Scheme in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities, rural and
semi-urban districts and coastal districts like Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh
where youth awareness of structured internship opportunities remains low?ANSWER

(a) : State/UT wise number of internship opportunities posted by companies in
Round I, Round II and Round III of the PMIS Pilot Project is placed at Annexure I.
Round III of the PMIS Pilot project is ongoing.
Year wise data is not maintained by PMIS Division. State/UT wise details of
candidates registered/ completed their profiles and candidates who have joined
their internship, including Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, in Round I, Round II and
Round III of the PMIS Pilot Project is placed at Annexure II.
(b): As per the revised Guidelines of the Prime Minister Internship Scheme-Pilot
Project, issued vide O.M. dated 12.03.2026, the Government has expanded the
eligibility criteria to include final-year undergraduate and postgraduate students.
This has been done with a view to expand the outreach of the Scheme and to enable
a larger number of eligible youth to benefit from exposure to a real-life business
environment through internship opportunities.
(c) & (d): The State/UT wise number of final year graduate/post graduate students
who have registered and completed their profiles in Round III, i.e. after the revised
guidelines came into effect, is placed at Annexure III.
The number of internship opportunities posted by companies and number of final
year graduate/post graduate students who have joined their internships from
Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh are given below:

Further, number of final year graduate/post graduate students who have registered
and completed their profiles in Round III, from Chikkaballapur district of Karnataka
and Anantapur, Palnadu and Kakinada districts of Andhra Pradesh, are placed as
Annexure-IV.
(e): The Ministry of Corporate Affairs is actively working with various stakeholders
such as state governments, central government ministries & departments, and
industry associations for promotion and implementation of the scheme. Extensive
Information, Education and Communication activities including workshops,
seminars, and promotional campaigns - both online and on-ground to amplify
program visibility and to reach out to the target groups in various districts of theState, have been carried out at higher educational institutions such as graduate
and postgraduate colleges in different districts of the country.
District level Nodal Officers have been nominated across Karnataka, including in
Chikkaballapur district, to undertake awareness activities and facilitate
dissemination of information regarding the PMIS. Further, outreach and awareness
initiatives have been conducted in Chikkaballapur district, including a virtual
awareness session for Principals and Placement Officers of Government First
Grade Colleges and Government Polytechnic Colleges in July 2026. Further,
periodic review meetings are conducted with the concerned stakeholders to
monitor progress and strengthen implementation.
In the state of Andhra Pradesh, the Government, in collaboration with District
Administration, District Skill Committee members and Youth Welfare Department
of Andhra Pradesh, has conducted several PMIS outreach programmes in various
Degree Colleges, Post Graduate Colleges and Women’s Colleges of Anantapur,
Palnadu and Kakinada districts of Andhra Pradesh.
(f): Details of number of companies and sectors wherein internship opportunities
were posted in Round I, Round II and Round III are given below:

As per the guidelines for PMIS Pilot Project, companies may provide internship
opportunities across the country in its own company or it may tie up with
Companies/MSMEs in its forward and backward supply chain (e.g. Network
Entities/Subsidiaries/Suppliers/Vendors, etc.) or Other Companies/Institutions in its
Group, which may include MSMEs and start-ups. Further, revised guidelines
stipulate that selected MSMEs through sectoral associations are eligible to
participate in the scheme.
(g): PM Internship Scheme is being implemented as a national level scheme and 35
States/UTs have appointed Nodal Officers for PMIS. With active support from State,
awareness campaigns are being carried out at ITI, Diploma, degree, and graduate
colleges across the country, including tier 2 and tier 3 cities, rural and semi-urban
districts and coastal districts like Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh.
