Parliament Question: Faculty Strength and Vacancies in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas

GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF EDUCATION DEPARTMENT OF SCHOOL EDUCATION & LITERACY LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 3717 ANSWERED ON 16.03.2026 Faculty Strength and Vacancies in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas 3717. Shri Pradeep Purohit: Will the Minister of EDUCATION be pleased to state: (a) the total number of sanctioned teaching posts at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in the country particularly in Paikmal in Bargarh district of Odisha, department/subject-wise; (b) the total number of faculty members currently in position and the number of temporary/contractual teachers engaged in the country, particularly in the above said district, subject-wise; (c) the total number students presently enrolled in the Vidyalaya; (d) the number of vacant teaching and non-teaching posts in the country as on date; (e) the details of steps taken or proposed to be taken by the Government to fill up the vacant posts and the expected timeline to fill them; and (f) whether the Government is planning to construct waiting hall for visitors/parents in the said schools and if so, the detail thereof? ANSWER MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION (SHRI JAYANT CHAUDHARY) (a) to (e): Vacancies keep on arising due to opening of new Navodaya Vidyalayas (NVs), retirement, resignation, promotion of employees, transfer, employees going on lien to another department and up-gradation of schools. Filling up of vacancies is a continuous process and efforts are made to fill up the vacancies as per the provisions of the relevant recruitment rules. Teachers are also engaged on contractual basis for temporary duration at the local level against sanctioned posts, whenever regular or leave vacancies arise in a NV to ensure that the teaching-learning process is not hampered. As per information received from Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS), the total number of sanctioned and in-position teaching staff (including Principal and Vice Principal) in NVs across the country, as on 31.12.2025, is as under: Post Sanctioned In-Position Teaching staff 17510 12427The subject-wise number of sanctioned, in-position (including Principal and Vice Principal) and contractual teaching staff in NVs across the country, are at Annexure–I. The subject-wise number of sanctioned, in-position (including Principal and Vice Principal) and contractual teaching staff in NV Paikmal, Bargarh District, Odisha, are at Annexure–II. The total number of students enrolled in NVs across the country and NV Paikmal, Bargarh district as on 31.01.2026 are 314,927 and 555, respectively.
