Parliament Question: Farmers of Bihar Covered under Crop Insurance Scheme

SHRI SUNIL KUMAR: Will the Minister of AGRICULTURE AND FARMERS WELFARE कृ िष एवं िकसान क(cid:670)ाण मं(cid:361)ी be pleased to state: (a) the number of farmers covered under the Crop Insurance Scheme in the West Champaran district of Bihar during the last five years; (b) whether insurance officials are reluctant to enrol farmers under the scheme and fail to settle crop damage claims of policyholders; and (c) if so, the details thereof? ANSWER MINISTER OF STATE FOR AGRICULTURE AND FARMERS WELFARE कृ िष एवं िकसान क(cid:670)ाण रा(cid:475) मं(cid:361)ी (SHRI RAMNATH THAKUR) (a): Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) provides comprehensive risk coverage from pre-sowing to post harvest losses against non-preventable natural risks, whereas the Restructured Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme (RWBCIS) provides indemnification for likely crop losses due to deviation in weather indices. The scheme is voluntary for the States as well as farmers. State of Bihar after implementing the scheme from 2016-17 to 2017-18, has not implemented the scheme thereafter.
