Will the Minister of HEALTH ANDFAMILYWELFARE be pleased to state:
(a) the details of the total number of medical colleges across the country, State/UT-wise,
Government and private sector-wise;
(b) whether the Government decides the fee structure for Medical UG & PG courses for
private colleges in the country and if so, the details thereof, State/UT-wise;
(c) whether students belonging to middle class and economically weaker sections are
unable to pursue MBBS and PG courses due to high fee structure;
(d) if so, the details thereof and the steps taken/proposed to be taken by the Government in
this regard;
(e) whether the Government proposes to charge fees at Government rates for 50 per cent
students in private medical colleges and if so, the academic year from which it is likely to
be implemented; and
(f) the total number of students likely to be benefitted every year from these guidelines?

(a)The details of the total number of medical colleges across the country, State/UT-wise is at
Annexure.
(b) to (f) Fee structures differ from State to State vis-a-vis Government / Private Medical
Colleges as per the guidelines issued by concerned State Fee Regulatory Authorities.
Government continuously endeavours to make education more affordable and prevent
commercialization of it. In order to make medical education affordable and accessible in the
country, the fee structure of Government medical collegesissubsidized.
Furthermore, Clause (i) of Sub-section (1) of Section 10 of the National Medical
Commission Act (NMC), 2019 provides for framing of guidelines for determination of fees
and all other charges in respect of fifty percent (50%) of seats in private medical institutions
and deemed to be universities which are governed under the provisions of the Act.
Accordingly, NMC hasframedthe guidelinesandthe same was issued on03.02.2022.
The benefit of the prescribed fee structure shall benefit 50% of the medical students
admittedinMBBS/PG courses inprivate medicalcollegesanddeemed tobe universities.
