Dr. Rajeev Bharadwaj: Will the Minister of EDUCATION be pleased to state: (a) the details and the total number of Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) presently functioning in Himachal Pradesh, district-wise; (b) whether the Government proposes to open new Kendriya Vidyalayas in Himachal Pradesh; and (c) if so, the details thereof? ANSWER MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION (SHRI JAYANT CHAUDHARY) (a) As per information received from Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), presently, 26 Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) are functioning in the State of Himachal Pradesh. District-wise details are annexed. (b) & (c) Opening of new KVs is a continuous process. KVs are opened primarily to cater to the educational needs of the wards of transferable Central Government Employees including Defence & Para-Military personnel, Central Autonomous Bodies, Central Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) and Central Institute of Higher Learning (IHL) by providing a common programme of education throughout the country. Proposals for opening of new KVs may be sponsored by Ministries or Departments of the Government of India/State Governments/ Union Territories Administrations, with commitment to provide requisite extent of land, free of cost and suitable rent-free temporary accommodation for setting up a new KV, as per Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) norms. The Government of India has recently sanctioned 85 new KVs in December, 2024 and 57 new KVs in October, 2025 across the country, including 06 KVs in the State of Himachal Pradesh, namely (i) Riri Kuthera (District Kangra) (ii) Gokulnagar Uppar Bhanjal (District Una) (iii) Nandpur (District Una) (iv) Thunag (District Mandi) (v) Paonta Sahib (District Sirmour) and (vi) Kotkhai (District Shimla). *****ANNEXURE ANNEXURE REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PART (a) OF THE LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 2631 ASKED BY DR.
