Funds Allocated to Central Universities in Delhi

Will the Minister of EDUCATION be pleased to state:
(a) the total expenditure likely to be incurred on education sector in the Union Budget for the year
2026-27 including the amount by which the same exceeds the previous year outlay;
(b) the total fund allocated for the Central Universities located in Delhi in the Union Budget 2026-
27; and
(c) whether the Union Budget for the year 2026-27 has also any provision for opening new
colleges under Delhi University?

(a) The Ministry of Education has been allocated an amount of Rs. 1,39,289.48 crore in the Union
Budget 2026-27 which is an increase of Rs. 10,639.43 crore over the Budget allocation of Rs.
1,28,650.05 crore in 2025-26.
(b) Ministry of Education releases block grant to University Grants Commission (UGC) under
“Grants to Central Universities” which in turn allocates funds to Central Universities (CUs) including
those located in Delhi, based on their requirement and expenditure incurred during the previous year
etc. No separate earmarked allocation is made in the Union Budget for any individual Central
University.
(c) The Union Budget for 2026-27 does not contain any specific provision for opening new
colleges under the University of Delhi.
