FUNDS FOR INDIAN NATIONAL DEFENCE UNIVERSITY
2102. SHRI DEEPENDER SINGH HOODA:
Will the Minister of DEFENCE be pleased to state:
(a) whether the Government has allocated funds for the establishment of the Indian National
Defence University (INDU), Gurugram and if so, the details of the funds allocated, utilised and
remaining unutilised since the inception of the project, year-wise;
(b) whether the Government has approved the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the project and,
if so, the details thereof, including the present status of the project and the original and revised
timelines for its completion;
(c) whether there has been a delay in the completion of the project and if so, the reasons therefor;
(d) whether the Government has assessed the impact of the delay on defence education, strategic
research and training and if so, the details thereof; and
(e) whether the Government has taken steps to expedite the implementation of the project and if
so, the details thereof, including the revised timeline for its completion?

IN THE MINISTRY OF DEFENCE
(a) to (e) The concept of Indian Defence University is to have an Institution of Excellence to
study modern warfare, our neighbourhood environment, Space, Seas, Cyber and other areas of
emerging challenges. In this regard, a two member Committee have been constituted to evolve the
proposal in consultation with stakeholders. The preliminary work relating to acquisition of land,
construction of boundary wall, perimeter road, guard rooms and watch towers has been completed
at a cost of Rs. 176 crore. The needs of Professional Military Education, Strategic Research and
Capacity Building continue to be met through the existing network of Services Training
Establishments and Tri-Service institutions.
