STARRED QUESTION NO. 338* FOR 24th MARCH, 2026
(a) to (c) Under National Health Mission (NHM), financial support for Mobile Medical
Unit (MMU) is provided to States/UTs, based on the requirements posed by them in their
Programme Implementation Plans (PIPs), to improve access to quality healthcare
services in remote and rural areas, following norms and subject to availability of
resources. The Central Government supports both capital and operational costs, for an
MMU per 10 lakh population. The total number of MMUs operated in the country,
State-wise, including Tamil Nadu is given at Annexure.
Public Health is a State subject and the implementation of MMUs lies with the State
Governments/UTs. However, funds under NHM are released to States/UTs under flexible
pools on a lump sum basis to provide greater flexibility to States to utilize the funds as
per their felt need and priorities.
As per information provided by the State Government of Tamil Nadu, the details of funds
released for MMUs in Tamil Nadu during the last 3 years are given below:
Financial Year(FY) FundsReleased(inLakhs)
2023-24 Rs. 1901.55
2024-25 Rs. 1901.55
2025-26 Rs. 1901.55
