Funds for Sports Projects in Telangana

Will the Minister of YOUTH AFFAIRS AND SPORTS be pleased to state:
(a) whether the Government of Telangana has requested the Government to
allot adequate funds and to consider sanction of Rs.100 crore for various
sports infrastructure development works like synthetic athletic track, multi-
purpose indoor stadium, archery range in Hakimpet on the city outskirts,
squash court in Lal Bahadur Shastri Stadium among other things for sports
infrastructure, training of sportspersons;
(b) if so, whether the Government has taken any steps to organise Khelo
India Games – 2026 edition in Telangana and explore options for holding
national and international sports events;
(c) whether the Government of Telangana is taking steps to improve,
strengthen sports infrastructure and has urged the Government to ensure
that Telangana would host at least two events in the Olympics proposed to
be held in the country in 2036; and
(d) if so, the details thereof and the funds sanctioned therefor?

(a) Yes, Sir. Under the “Creation and upgradation of sports infrastructure”
component of the Khelo India Scheme, this Ministry has received following
proposals from the State Government of Telangana:
i) Construction of Multipurpose Sports Complex (Stadium) at Raigiri
Village, Bhuvanagiri Mandal, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri District;
ii) Construction of Swimming Pool (All-Weather) at Bhongir, Yadadri
Bhuvanagiri District;
Page 1 of 2iii) Laying of Synthetic Athletic Track (400M, 8 Lane) at Raigiri Village,
Bhuvanagiri Mandal, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri District;
iv) Construction of Synthetic Athletic Track (8 Lane) with Fencing,
Gallery, Washrooms, etc. at Palamuru University Campus,
Mahabubnagar;
v) Construction of Multipurpose Hall at Satavahana University,
Malkapur Road, Karimnagar;
vi) Development of Archery Range at Telangana Sports School,
Hakimpet, Thumkunta, Medchal Malkajgiri District;
vii) Construction of Squash Court at L.B. Stadium, Hyderabad;
viii) Development of Synthetic Hockey Field at KISCE, Telangana Sports
School, Hakimpet, Thumkunta, Medchal Malkajgiri District;
ix) Renovation of Hockey Ground 1 at Gachibowli Sports Complex,
Hyderabad;
x) Development of Natural Football Field at L.B. Stadium, Hyderabad;
xi) Laying of Synthetic Athletic Track (4 Lane) at L.B. Stadium,
Hyderabad; and
xii) Laying of Synthetic Athletic Track (400M) at Mahatma Gandhi
University, Nalgonda
(b) to (d) To conduct the Khelo India Games, the Ministry designates a state
as the Host State. The selection of host states is based on the availability
of essential resources, such as sports infrastructure, adequate hotel
accommodations, smooth physical connectivity to the prospective venues
of different events, and various other technical requirements. Therefore, it
is not possible to determine at this juncture whether Telangana will be a
host state for future Khelo India Games. Further, bidding to host the
Olympic Games in India is the responsibility of the Indian Olympic
Association (IOA) and allotment of hosting rights for the Olympics is done
by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) through a detailed host
selection process. The host selection process is available in public domain
on IOC website at https://www.olympics.com/ioc/becoming-an-olympic-
games-host/the-process-to-elect-olympic-hosts. IOA has submitted a letter
of intent to IOC. The bid is now in the “Continuous Dialogue” phase with the
Future Host Commission of IOC.
