Parliament Question: Government supported internship pathways

GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF CORPORATE AFFAIRS RAJYA SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 1170 ANSWERED ON TUESDAY THE 10th FEBRUARY, 2026 GOVERNMENT SUPPORTED INTERNSHIP PATHWAY QUESTION 1170. Dr. M. Dhanapal: Will the Minister of CORPORATE AFFAIRS be pleased to state: (a) whether Government has examined how AI reduces entry-level opportunities for graduates and increases the need for Government-supported internship pathways; (b) if so, the details of Government measures aligning internship training with AI-driven industry needs and preparing youth for roles beyond traditional entry-level jobs; and (c) what actions Government proposes for collaboration with industry, academia and start-ups to ensure interns transition into productive employment pathways? ANSWER MINISTER OF STATE OF THE MINISTRY OF CORPORATE AFFAIRS AND MINISTRY OF ROAD TRANSPORT AND HIGHWAYS [SHRI HARSH MALHOTRA] (a) & (b): The Prime Minister Internship Scheme (PMIS) Pilot Project provides an opportunity to the youth to get training and gain experience and skills within the real-life environment of various businesses or organizations with the intention of enhancing their employability by bridging the gap between academic learning and industry requirements. The PM Internship Scheme is not designed specifically as a response to the impact of AI on entry-level opportunities for graduates being reduced or increased. Partner companies of PMIS Pilot Project have flexibility to offer internship opportunities as per industry need/requirement. Internship opportunities offered cover a large number of diverse sectors and roles in different areas including in Artificial Intelligence. (c): PMIS is designed to enhance industry-relevant skills, improve job readiness and foster professional exposure through structured internships in India’s top-performing companies andinstitutions to create job ready, skilled work force. The Ministry has done active engagement with industry to ensure meaningful internship experience for the interns to enhance their skills and employability. *****
