Executive Summary & Key Takeaways

This document summarizes the current status of the proposed Murti Greenfield Airport in Rajura Tehsil, Chandrapur district, Maharashtra, as of August 7, 2025, based on a response to Lok Sabha Unstarred Question No. 3176. The response, provided by the Minister of State in the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Shri Murlidhar Mohol, clarifies that while the Government of India (GoI) has a Greenfield Airports (GFA) Policy, 2008, which outlines the process for developing new Greenfield airports, the GoI has not received any proposal for 'Site Clearance' under the GFA Policy from the Government of Maharashtra (GoM) or any Airport Developer for construction of the airport in Murti Village. The policy dictates that the responsibility for implementation of such projects, including land acquisition, rehabilitation and resettlement (RR), and funding, lies with the Project Proponent. A pre-feasibility study was conducted by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) in 2018 at the request of the Maharashtra Airport Development Company Limited (MADC), Government of Maharashtra (GoM). However, the project's progression beyond this stage is contingent upon the submission of a formal proposal for 'Site Clearance' by the GoM or an airport developer, which has not yet occurred. The response does not provide specific deadlines or alternative measures to mitigate the impact of delays on local industrial and economic development, as the project has not formally commenced under the GFA policy framework.
