be pleased to state:-
(a) the major reasons for the delay in the construction of the proposed
Greenfield Airport project in Silchar Lok Sabha Constituency;
(b) whether the Government has set any specific timeline to commence the
construction work of the said project at the earliest and if so, the details
thereof;
(c) the steps taken by the Government so far to ensure timely completion of
the said project; and
(d) whether the Government has allocated adequate funds for the said project
and if so, the details and the current status thereof?

(a) to (d): Government of India (GoI) has formulated a Greenfield Airports
(GFA) Policy, 2008 for development of new Greenfield airports in the country
through a two stage approval process, i.e. 'Site Clearance' followed by 'In-
Principle' approval.
GoI has granted 'Site Clearance' approval to Airports Authority of India
(AAI) for establishment of an Greenfield Airport at Silchar, Assam in
February, 2024. As per the GFA Policy, the responsibility for implementation
of the Greenfield airport projects including land acquisition, R&R, funding
etc. lies with the concerned airport developer or the State Government, as the
case may be. The timeline for completion of the airport projects depends upon
many factors such as land acquisition, availability of mandatory clearances
including environmental clearances, financial closure etc.
