SHRI LALJI VERMA: Will the Minister of JAL SHAKTI be pleased to state: (a) the number of villages in Ambedkar Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh where the work of the ‘Har Ghar Jal’ scheme under the Jal Jeevan Mission has been completed so far; (b) whether roads and lanes have been dug up to facilitate the installation of pipelines under the said scheme and if so, the details thereof; (c) whether the said roads and lanes are likely to be repaired; and (d) if so, the details thereof along with the time by which this work is likely to be done? ANSWER MINISTER OF STATE FOR JAL SHAKTI (SHRI V. SOMANNA) (a) Since August 2019, Government of India in partnership with States/UTs is implementing Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) – Har Ghar Jal to make provision of potable water to every rural household of the country through functional tap connection. At the start of the mission, only 3.23 crore (16.71%) rural households were reported to have tap water connections. With concerted efforts from both Centre and States/UTs under Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) – Har Ghar Jal around 12.43 crore additional rural households have been reported to have been provided with tap water connections. Thus, as on 26.07.2025, out of 19.36 crore rural households in the country, more than 15.67 crore (80.96%) households are reported to have tap water supply in their homes. At the time of announcement of Jal Jeevan Mission, in Uttar Pradesh, 5.16 Lakh rural households were reported to have tap water connections. Since then, around 235.76 Lakh additional rural households have been provided with tap water connections in the State. Thus, as on 26.07.2025, out of 267.21 Lakh rural households in the State, around 240.92 Lakh (90.16%) households are reported to have tap water supply in their homes. In Ambedkar Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh, at the time of announcement of JJM, 3.96 Thousand rural households were reported to have tap water connections. Since then, around 3.06 Lakh rural households in the district have been provided tap water connections. Thus, as on 26.07.2025, out of total 3.16 Lakh rural households in the said district, around 3.10 Lakh (98.09%) rural households are reported to have tap water supply in their homes. Page 1 of 2Under Jal Jeevan Mission in district Ambedkar Nagar, there are total 571 schemes to be constructed which covers 1573 Revenue Villages, out of which 104 Schemes are fully completed and functional which covers 235 Revenue villages and by direct pumping 207 Schemes are functional which Covers 366 Revenue villages. Thus 601 Revenue Villages are getting regular water supply through 311 schemes. (b) Water being a State subject, States/UTs have been empowered to plan, design, approve, implement and operate & maintain drinking water supply schemes. As such, the responsibility of implementation, inter-alia including repairing or restoration of roads that get affected while laying water supply pipelines of rural water supply schemes taken up under JJM, lies with State/ UT Governments and the funds available under JJM may be utilized for the same. Further, to avoid any hardships to the villagers, States/UTs have been advised to take up rural water schemes in a way with minimum damages to infrastructure such as roads/ highways and to restore the roads/ highways immediately in case of damages done while laying of pipelines for water supply systems. As reported by the State of Uttar Pradesh, till 25th July, 2025, 11,359 KM distribution pipe line has been laid in the district Ambedkar Nagar. During laying of pipeline, 3700 Km of various types of roads have been dismantled. (c) & (d) Yes, the state government of Uttar Pradesh has informed that in district Ambedkar Nagar, out of 3700 Km of various types of roads, 3627 KMs roads already have been restored. Remaining 73 Kms of Roads have been made motorable which is targeted to be fully restored after hydro testing of pipelines. ***** Page 2 of 2
