Bureau. However, as per the latest published data, State/UT-wise sanctionedand Actual Strength
of Medical Officer/ Staff as on 31st December, 2022 is at Annexure-I and State/UT-wise
sanctioned and Actual Strength of Psychologist/ Psychiatrist as on 31st December, 2022 is at
Annexure-II.(c) & (d): As per information provided by Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), ‘Prisons'/'persons
detained therein' is a "State-List" subject under entry 4 of List Il of the Seventh Schedule to the
Constitution of India Administration and management of prisons and prisoners, including the
responsibility to fill up the vacant post of health professionals and providing health services to
prison inmates, is the responsibility of respective State Governments, who are competent to take
necessary actionintheir jurisdictions.
