HERITAGE SITES IN ERODE DISTRICT
3069. SHRI S. KALYANASUNDARAM:
Will the Minister of CULTURE be pleased to state:
(a) whether Government has assessed conservation needs of heritage assets in Erode district,
Tamil Nadu, including temple precincts near Bhavani and cultural structures requiring
documentation and structural protection;
(b) if so, the details of heritage surveys, expert visits, conservation funding, restoration
approvals and monitoring actions undertaken in that district; and
(c) the measures proposed to be taken by Government to protect heritage assets, improve routine
maintenance and ensure scientific conservation practices in the said district?

(a) There are 412 centrally protected monuments/sites under the care and maintenance of
to Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) in Tamil Nadu State including 01 monument i.e. Jain
(c) Temple, Mettupudur in Erode district. ASI takes up conservation and preservation works of
these monuments/sites as per the need and availability of resources subject to the National
Policy for Conservation and it is a continuous process. The detail of expenditure incurred for
conservation and maintenance during last three years and current year in respect of Jain
Temple, Mettupudur, Erode district, Tamil Nadu is given below:

Protection of ancient monuments/ archaeological sites and remains is a continuous process.
Monuments and Sites are assessed on the basis of their archaeological, historical, and
architectural significance, and those found worthy are declared as monuments/sites of national
importance as per the provision of the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and
Remains (AMASR) Act, 1958.
