SHRI ANIL BALUNI: Will the Minister of ENVIRONMENT, FOREST AND CLIMATE CHANGE be pleased to state: (a)whether the Government proposes to formulate a new policy for the State of Uttarakhand in order to check rapidly increasing incidents of human-wildlife conflict; (b)whether the Government proposes to run a joint special campaign with State Government to check the increasing incidents of wild animal attacks in Uttarakhand; (c)whether the Government is conducting any specific studies or carrying investigations expert to understand the reasons behind the increasing conflict between wild animals and humans; and (d)if so, the details thereof? ANSWER MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF ENVIRONMENT, FOREST AND CLIMATE CHANGE (SHRI KIRTI VARDHAN SINGH) (a) to (d) Incidences of crop damage due to human-wildlife conflict are reported from different part of country from time to time. However, the management of wildlife including mitigation of human-animal conflicts is primarily the responsibility of the concerned State Government/Union Territory Administration. The State Government/Union Territory Administration is the first responder in Human Wildlife Conflict situations. As per information received from the State of Uttarakhand, a “Human–Wildlife Conflict Mitigation Cell” has been constituted in the state. Under this mechanism, systematic work is being carried out for the identification, monitoring, and resolution of situations arising due to human–wildlife conflict, along with documentation and maintenance of relevant records and data. Further, with the assistance of the Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun, the exercise for the estimation of the leopard population has been completed in the State. *****
