The Union Cabinet has approved extension of the Jal Jeevan Mission, with an enhanced outlay and a restructured reforms in the rural drinking water supply sector under JJM 2.0. Drinking water is a State subject, and hence, the responsibility of planning, approval, implementation, operation, and maintenance of drinking water supply schemes, including those under the Jal Jeevan Mission, lies with the respective State/UT Governments. The Government of India supports the States by providing technical and financial assistance only. At the start of the Mission in 2019, only 3.24 crore (16.72%) rural households were reported to have tap water connection in the country. As on 20.07.2026, out of 19.36 crore rural Page 1 of 14households, around 15.89 crore (82.10%) rural households have been provided tap water connection. The State-wise details of Household tap water connections (as on 20.07.2026) and financial details (as on 15.07.2026) are at Annexure-I and Annexure-II respectively. In Andhra Pradesh, only 30.74 lakh (32.18%) rural households were reported to have tap water connection in 2019. As on 20.07.2026, out of 95.53 lakh rural households, around 72.11 lakh (75.48%) rural households have been provided tap water connection. The details of the status of implementation of JJM 2.0 in Andhra Pradesh, district wise (including Palnadu) is at Annexure-III. As informed by State of Andhra Pradesh, the State has planned for saturation till June 2028 by completing all SVS by March 2027, MVS by March 2028, BWS by June 2028 and retrofitting by March 2027. The Government of India has Implemented the Comprehensive Implementation and Reform Plan (CIRP) for ensuring the comprehensive planning and implementation of JJM in the State. The Scheme Implementation under JJM 2.0 is being implemented through CIRP and the source to tap hydraulic linkages is confirmed by creation of Sujal Gaon Id to ensure functionality of schemes throughout the lifecycle, as on 21.07.2026 the State has created 18,018 Sujal Gaon Ids.
