Parliament Question: Implementation of National Beekeeping and Honey Mission in Odisha

MAMATA MOHANTA Will the Minister of AGRICULTURE AND FARMERS WELFARE be pleased to state (a) whether the National Beekeeping and Honey Mission (NBHM) has been implemented in Odisha, particularly in Mayurbhanj district, if so, the details of funds allocated, released and utilised; (b) the details of honey testing laboratories, processing units and related infrastructure established in the State; and (c) whether the Mission has enhanced honey production, traceability and export potential while strengthening income of small and tribal beekeepers? ANSWER MINISTER OF AGRICULTURE AND FARMERS WELFARE (SHRI SHIVRAJ SINGH CHOUHAN) (a) to (c): A statement is laid on the table of the House.STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (c) OF RAJYA SABHA STARRED QUESTION No 314 FOR ANSWER ON 20/03/2026 REGARDING IMPLEMENTATION OF NATIONAL BEEKEEPING AND HONEY MISSION IN ODISHA (a): National Beekeeping and Honey Mission (NBHM) is implemented across the country including Odisha. 5 projects of Rs. 227.12 lakh have been sanctioned, released and utilized by the implementing agencies from Khurda, Kandhamal and Ganjam districts of Odisha. (b): 2 honey testing laboratories have been established at Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT), Bhubaneswar and ICAR-Indian Institute of Horticultural Research (IIHR), Bhubaneswar respectively. 2 quality nucleus development centre and Honey bee venom/ bee wax production facilities established by FPOs at Kandhamal and Ganjam districts in Odisha. (c): As per the information from Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) honey exports increased from 98,273.50 MT to 100,773.14 MT, while the export value rose from USD 170.94 million to USD 206.47 million during the period 2022–23 to 2024–25. NBHM has contributed to transforming traditional beekeeping sector into technology driven market- oriented initiatives through capital infrastructure as well as capacity building. Honey production has risen from 1.42 lakh MT in 2022-23 to 1.52 lakh MT during 2024-25 (Third advance estimates). “Madhukranti Portal” was launched in August 2021 to register beekeepers. As on date 24.52 lakh bee colonies have been registered on Madhukranti Portal by 16,443 beekeepers/ societies/ firms/ companies etc. All registered beekeepers are also provided accidental insurance cover of Rs. 1 lakh under Janata Personal Accident Insurance Policy. The portal is for registration and traceability of honey and other beehive products. The certificate issued through the portal facilitates the smooth and hassle-free movement of beekeepers during migration. *****
