GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF CULTURE LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 1173 ANSWERED ON 27.07.2026 Inclusion of Kuttanad Agricultural Landscape in UNESCO Tentative List 1173. Shri Kodikunnil Suresh: Will the Minister of Culture be pleased to state: (a) whether the Government has examined the proposal for inclusion of the Kuttanad Agricultural Landscape, Kerala, in India’s UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List under the Cultural Landscape category and if so, the present status thereof; (b) whether the Government has received recommendations or technical inputs from the Wildlife Institute of India, the Government of Kerala or any other expert institution regarding the nomination of Kuttanad and if so, the details thereof; (c) whether the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has initiated the Preliminary Assessment process and stakeholder consultations required for the preparation of the nomination dossier and if not, the reasons therefor; (d) whether the Government proposes to constitute an inter-ministerial committee or expert task force for facilitating the inclusion of Kuttanad in India’s Tentative List and its subsequent nomination to the UNESCO World Heritage List; and if so, the details thereof? (e) ANSWER THE MINISTER OF CULTURE AND TOURISM (SHRI GAJENDRA SINGH SHEKHAWAT) (a) The proposal for the inclusion of the Kuttanad Agricultural Landscape, Kerala, in & the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List has not been received from the respectiveState Government. (b) No Sir, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has not initiated the Preliminary Assessment process, as the proposal for the inclusion of the Kuttanad (c) Agricultural Landscape, Kerala, in the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List has not been received from the respective State Government. (d) No, Sir. In this regard, there is no proposal to constitute an inter-ministerial committee or expert task force for facilitating the inclusion of India’s Tentative List & and nomination to UNESCO World Heritage List.
