Parliament Question: Income of farmers and agricultural households

SHRI DEREK O' BRIEN: Will the Minister of AGRICULTURE AND FARMERS WELFARE be pleased to state: (a) the total number of farmers and agricultural households in the country, State/UT-wise; and (b) the average and median annual income of farmer households and their debt, State/UT- wise and by size of landholding (marginal/small/medium/large), for the last five years? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF STATE FOR AGRICULTURE AND FARMERS WELFARE (SHRI RAMNATH THAKUR) (a) & (b): As per the latest “Situation Assessment Survey (SAS) of Agricultural Households”, conducted by the National Statistics Office (NSO), Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) during agricultural year July 2018- June 2019, the number of agricultural household in the country is estimated at 9.3 crores. State/UT-wise details of agricultural households, along with the average monthly income and the average amount of outstanding loan per agricultural household during the same period are given in Annexure I.
