ANSWER THE MINISTEROFSTATE IN THE MINISTRYOFHEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE (SMT. ANUPRIYAPATEL) (a) to (e): The Ministry of Health & Family Welfare administers a Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS) for ‘Establishment of new medical colleges attached with existing district/referral hospitals’ with preference to underserved areas and aspirational districts, where there is no existing Government or private medical college. The fund sharing mechanism between the Centre and State Governments is in the ratio of 90:10 for North Eastern and Special Category States, and 60:40 for others. Under the Scheme, 157 Government medical colleges have been approved in three phases including 04 medical colleges (Chikkamagaluru, Haveri, Yadgiri & Chikkaballapura)inKarnataka. All the four medicalcollegesare functional. The phase wise detailsof medical collegesapprovedinthe countryare at Annexure. 1Under CSS for upgradation of existing State Government/ Central Government Medical Colleges for increasing MBBS (UG) seats and PG seats, financial support has been provided to the State of Karnataka for increase of 550 MBBS seats in nine (09) Medical Colleges at a total approved cost of Rs. 660Crore and 70 PGseats intwo (02) Medical Colleges at a total approved cost of Rs. 66.62Crore. Also, under the “Upgradation of Government medical colleges by construction of Super SpecialtyBlocks”componentofPradhanMantriSwasthya Suraksha Yojana(PMSSY),three (03) projects have been approved in Karnataka in Government Medical Colleges at Bangaluru, Bellary and Hubli.
