Parliament Question: Installation of Lifts at Railway Stations of Jharkhand

GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF RAILWAYS LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 2951 TO BE ANSWERED ON 17.12.2025 INSTALLATION OF LIFTS AT RAILWAY STATIONS OF JHARKHAND 2951. SHRI VISHNU DAYAL RAM: Will the Minister of RAILWAYS be pleased to state: (a) the total number of lifts installed at railway stations across the country particularly in the State of Jharkhand, zone and division- wise; (b) the number of lifts that are currently operational, non- operational/under maintenance; (c) the average time taken for repair and restoration of non-functional lifts at stations particularly in Jharkhand; and (d) whether the Government has assessed the factors contributing to prolonged repair timelines and the measures undertaken to ensure timely restoration of lift services for passengers especially persons with disabilities and senior citizens and if so, the details thereof? ANSWER MINISTER OF RAILWAYS, INFORMATION & BROADCASTING AND ELECTRONICS & INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (SHRI ASHWINI VAISHNAW) (a) to (d): To improve passenger experience and comfort, Ministry of Railways has launched Amrit Bharat Station Scheme for redevelopment of stations with a long-term approach. This includes provision of Lifts also. Cont.2/--2- The scheme involves preparation of master plans and their implementation in phases to improve the stations. The master planning includes:  Improvement of access to station and circulating areas  Integration of station with both sides of city  Improvement of station building  Improvement of waiting halls, toilets, sitting arrangement, water booths  Provision of wider foot over bridge/air concourse commensurate with passenger traffic  Provision of lift/escalators/ramp  Improvement /Provision of platform surface and cover over platforms  Provision of kiosks for local products through schemes like ‘One Station One Product’  Parking areas, Multimodal integration  Amenities for Divyangjans  Better passenger information systems  Provision of executive lounges, nominated spaces for business meetings, landscaping etc. keeping in view the necessity at each station. The scheme also envisages sustainable and environment friendly solutions, provision of ballastless tracks etc. as per necessity, phasing and feasibility and creation of city centre at the station in the long term. So far, 1337 stations have been identified for development under Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, out of which 57 stations are located in Contd.3/--3- Jharkhand. The name of stations identified for development under Amrit Bharat Station Scheme in Jharkhand are as following: State No. of Name of Stations Stations Jharkhand 57 Balsiring, Bano, Barajamda Jn, Barkakana, Basukinath, Bhaga, Bokaro Steel City, Chaibasa, Chakradharpur, Chandil, Chandrapura, Daltonganj, Dangoaposi, Deoghar, Dhanbad, Dumka, Gamharia, Gangaghat, Garhwa Road, Garhwa Town, Ghatsila, Giridih, Godda, Govindpur Road, Haidarnagar, Hatia, Hazaribagh Road, Jamtara, Japla, Jasidih, Katrasgarh, Koderma, Kumardhubi, Latehar, Lohardaga, Madhupur, Manoharpur, Muhammadganj, Muri, N.S.C.B. Gomoh, Nagaruntari, Namkom, Orga, Pakur, Parasnath, Piska, Rajkharswan, Rajmahal, Ramgarh Cant, Ranchi, Sahibganj, Sankarpur, Silli, Sini, Tatanagar, Tatisilwai, Vidyasagar Development works at railway stations under Amrit Bharat Station Scheme in Jharkhand have been taken up at a good pace. Till now, works of 08 stations (Godda, Govindpur Road, Lohardaga, Madhupur, Piska, Rajmahal, Sahibganj, Sankarpur) in Jharkhand have been completed under this scheme. The works at other stations have also been taken up at good pace and progress of some of above stations is as given below: Contd.4/--4-  Muri Junction station: The works of improvement of station building, entrance porch, new waiting hall, approach road, circulating area, parking area, Divyangjan facilities, station lighting and signage have been completed. The finishing works have been taken up.  Orga station: The works of improvement of station building, platform shelter, approach road and station lighting have been completed. The works of platform surfacing, parking and Divyangjan facilities have been taken up.  Bano station: The works of improvement of station building, circulating area, approach road and Divyangjan facilities have been completed. The works of platform shelter, platform surfacing and Divyangjan facilities for Foot Over Bridge ramp, toilet and drinking water booth have been taken up.  Gangaghat station: The works of improvement of station building, platform shelter, approach road and circulating area have been completed. The works of Foot Over Bridge ramp and Divyangjan facilities have been taken up. Further development / redevelopment / upgradation / modernisation of stations including provision of passenger amenities at stations on Indian Railways is a continuous and ongoing process and works in this regard are undertaken as per requirement, subject to inter-se priority and availability of funds. The priority for development / redevelopment / upgradation / modernisation of stations is accorded to higher category of station over lower category of station while sanctioning and executing the works. Contd.5/--5- Till November, 2025, 1931 lifts have been provided over the Indian Railways (IR) for ease of movement and as passenger amenity item at Railway Stations. This includes 51 nos. operational lifts at 24 Railway Stations in the State of Jharkhand. Lifts are functional with regular schedule maintenance or need based attention. Maintenance/repair of lifts including attention during breakdowns is done through the Annual Maintenance Contract (AMC), which covers routine maintenance and ensures timely restoration of faults. *****
