Will the Minister of CORPORATE AFFAIRS be pleased to state:
(a) whether the Government has launched a scheme to provide one crore internship
opportunities during the next five years that was announced in the Union Budget
2024-25;
(b) if so, the number of interns enrolled under the said scheme;
(c) the details of the list of companies where these interns have been placed;
(d) the gender ratio of the interns enrolled under the said scheme;
(e) the distribution of interns, State-wise including Punjab;
(f) the educational background of the enrolled interns such as Engineering, Arts,
Commerce; and
(g) the details of any specific measures taken by the Government to ensure equal
participation from various regions, educational backgrounds and communities?

(a)&(b) : The Prime Minister Internship Scheme (PMIS) was announced in the Budget
2024-25. It aims to provide internship opportunities to one crore youth in top
500 companies in five years. As an initiation to this scheme, Ministry of
Corporate Affairs has launched a Pilot Project of the scheme on 3rd October,
2024, which is targeted to provide 1.25 lakh internship opportunities to the
youth in one year.
In the round I of the PM Internship Scheme Pilot Project, the partner companies
posted more than 1.27 lakh internship opportunities on the PMIS Portal across
the country. Against this, more than 6.21 lakh applications were received fromabout 1.81 lakh candidates. Partner companies made over 82,000 internship
offers and more than 28,000 candidates accepted offers to join the internship.
Over 8700 candidates joined their internship in the round I.
In the round II of the PM Internship Scheme Pilot Project, which commenced on
9th January, 2025, about 327 Partner Companies have posted over 1.18 lakh
internship opportunities (new and edited unfilled opportunities of previous
round) across 735 districts of the country. Over 4.55 lakh applications were
received from over 2.14 lakh applicants, in this round. As on 12.08.2025, partner
companies have made over 82,000 offers to the youth and over 24,000
candidates have accepted offers to join the internship.
The total number of candidates who have completed their profiles and
registration process under PMIS Pilot Project is over 3.38 lakh in Round I and
3.46 lakh in Round II.
(c) : The list of companies where the interns have joined the internship in the PMIS
pilot project round I is enclosed at Annexure I.
Currently, rolling out of offers and the process of acceptances/ joining by
interns in round II is in progress.
(d) : The gender ratio of the candidates who have completed their profiles and
registration process under PMIS Pilot Project in round I and round II is enclosed
at Annexure II.
(e) : The state-wise details of candidates who have joined their internship in round
I of the PMIS pilot project, including Punjab, is attached at Annexure-III.
(f) : In the pilot project, youth between the age group of 21- 24 years, who have
passed High School, Higher Secondary School, possess a certificate from an
ITI, hold a diploma from a Polytechnic Institute, or are graduates with degrees
such as BA, B.Sc, B.Com, BCA, BBA, B.Pharma, etc. and are not employed full-
time and not engaged in full-time education are eligible to apply.
(g) : The PM Internship Scheme Portal (Portal) which serves as a centralized
platform for end-to-end Scheme implementation and internship lifecycle
management, is accessible in 12 different languages, to enhance inclusivity
from different geographical regions of the country.
As per the Guidelines of the PMIS- Pilot Project, a pool of candidates based on
the number of applications received from all parts of the country, is shortlisted
for each internship opportunity through the Portal. The shortlisting process is
aimed at promoting diversity, regional & social inclusivity in the internship
program through providing for representation of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled
Tribes, Other Backward Classes as well as Persons with Disabilities in the
shortlist sent to the concerned company for further selection as per their
respective processes and criterion.Further, the Ministry of Corporate Affairs is actively working with various
stakeholders such as state governments, industry associations, educational
institutions etc. for promotion and implementation of the scheme. The Ministry
is also carrying out Information, Education and Communication activities to
reach out to the target groups across the country.
