Parliament Question: Internship Opportunities Under PMIS in Maharashtra and Tripura

Dr. Kalyan Vaijinathrao Kale: Shri Biplab Kumar Deb: Will the Minister of CORPORATE AFFAIRS be pleased to state: (a) the number of proposed and sanctioned internship opportunities by each State/Union Territory under Prime Minister Internship Scheme along with State- wise details thereof including Tripura; (b) the special steps taken by the Government to ensure equal opportunities to youth of the rural and urban areas under the scheme particularly of Maharashtra; (c) the extent to which the said scheme has contributed to remove regional imbalances in skill development and employment particularly in small States like Tripura; (d) the details of concrete steps taken by the Government to remove regional imbalances; (e) the mechanisms such as performance reports, payment systems etc. have been put in place to monitor the effectiveness of skill enhancement achieved through the scheme; (f) if so, the details thereof; and (g) the feedback received from the participating companies regarding improvement in the quality of trainees and selection process and reaction of the Government thereto? ANSWER MINISTER OF STATE OF THE MINISTRY OF CORPORATE AFFAIRS AND MINISTRY OF ROAD TRANSPORT AND HIGHWAYS [SHRI HARSH MALHOTRA] (a): The Prime Minister Internship Scheme (PMIS) announced in the Budget 2024- 25, aims to provide internship opportunities to one crore youth in top 500 companies in five years. As an initiation to this Scheme, Ministry of Corporate Affairs has launched a Pilot Project of the Scheme on 3rd October, 2024, which is targeted to provide 1.25 lakh internship opportunities in one year. In the first round of the Pilot Project, which commenced from 3rd October, 2024, more than 1.27 lakh internship opportunities were posted by the partner companies across 745 districts in all States/ UTs of the country.In the second round of the PM Internship Scheme Pilot Project, which commenced on 9th January, 2025, about 327 Partner Companies have posted over 1.18 lakh internship opportunities (new and edited unfilled opportunities of previous round) across 735 districts of the country. State-wise details of the number of internship opportunities, including Tripura, posted by the companies, in round II of the PMIS Pilot Project are given in Annexure. (b) to (d): The PMIS Portal which serves as a centralized platform for end-to-end Scheme implementation and management, is accessible in 12 different languages, to enhance inclusivity from different geographical regions of the country. As per the Guidelines of the PM Internship Scheme Pilot Project, a pool of candidates based on the number of applications received from all parts of the country, is shortlisted for each internship opportunity through the Portal, by matching the qualifications of the applicants with the qualifications sought by the company for that internship opportunity. The shortlisting process is aimed at promoting diversity, regional inclusivity and social inclusivity in the internship program through providing for representation of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes as well as Persons with Disabilities from all the regions of the country in the shortlist sent to the concerned company for further selection as per their respective processes and criterion. Further, Ministry of Corporate Affairs is actively working with various stakeholders such as state governments, central government ministries & departments, industry and industry associations for promotion and implementation of the scheme. The Ministry is also carrying out Information, Education and Communication activities to reach out to the target groups across the country, including in the states of Maharashtra and Tripura. (e) & (f): Under the PMIS Pilot Project, the company is expected to provide the person an actual working experience on a skill in which the company is directly involved. It provides an opportunity to the youth to get training and gain experience and skills within the real-life environment of various businesses or organizations with the objective of enhancing their employability by bridging the gap between academic learning and industry requirements. The monthly allowance and one time grant is being paid through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) directly into the interns’ Aadhaar seeded bank accounts. Further, as per guidelines of the pilot project, a concurrent Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) framework is provided to enable tracking of the outcomes as well as to ensure corrective actions during the course of implementation of the pilot project. Additionally, the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) is gathering feedback from various stakeholders to analyze the scheme’s impact as it continues to be implemented.
