INVESTIGATION IN AIR CRASH INCIDENT

Will the Minister of CIVIL AVIATION
be pleased to state:-
(a) whether the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has released the
interim statement on the investigation into the Air India AI-171 aircraft crash
and if so, the details thereof;
(b) whether the final report would be released after completion of all
investigative work and conclusion of the mandatory international review and
consultation processes and if so, the details thereof; and
(c) the corrective steps taken including the losses estimated and the future
course of action proposed to prevent recurrence of such incidents?
ANSWER

(a): Yes, the interim statement was published by Aircraft Accident Investigation
Bureau (AAIB) on 12 June 2026. The same is available on the AAIB website.
(b): The investigation is looking into all the aspects to identify the root cause
and contributing factors leading to the accident. The final investigation report
will be published after processing the requirements of International Civil
Aviation Organization (ICAO) Annex 13 and acceptance by the competent
authority.
(c): Post AI-171 accident, the following measures have been taken.(i) Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) General Safety Circular
01/2025 dated 19th June 2025 has been implemented for comprehensive special
audit to assess aviation ecosystem & strengthen aviation safety architecture.
(ii) DGCA has issued General Safety Circular 02/2025 dated 11th December
2025 on advance preparedness & timely compliance of specific operating
regulations.
(iii) One-time enhanced inspections have been carried out on B-787 to verify
the serviceability and the safe operation of scheduled flights.
(iv) DGCA directed M/s Air India to carry out additional maintenance action on
B-787-8/9 aircraft equipped with Genx engine.
