IRRIGATION PROJECT DEVELOPMENT UNDER PMKSY IN TELANGANA

Will the Minister of Jal Shakti be pleased to state:
(a) the details of central assistance provided under the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana
(PMKSY) for the completion of ongoing major and medium irrigation projects and micro-irrigation in
the State of Telangana during the last three years;
(b) the technical and financial support extended by the Central Water Commission (CWC) for the
review and optimisation of large projects like the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project; and
(c) the expected impact of these irrigation projects on agricultural productivity, farmer incomes and
drought-proofing in the State of Telangana?

“IRRIGATION PROJECT DEVELOPMENT UNDER PMKSY IN TELANGANA”
(a) Ninty-Nine (99) ongoing Major/Medium Irrigation projects (and 7 phases) included under Pradhan
Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY) during the year 2016-17, with the aim to enhance physical
access of water on farm and expand cultivable area under assured irrigation, improve on-farm water use
efficiency, introduce sustainable water conservation practices etc. Out of them, eleven (11) projects of
Telangana were included under PMKSY-AIBP with eligible central assistance of Rs. 1129.80 Crore. A
total central assistance of Rs 981.49 Crore has been provided for these projects. No eligible proposal
for Central assistance received from Govt. of Telangana during the last three years.
Per Drop More Crop (PDMC) scheme, being implemented by Department of Agriculture and
Farmer’s Welfare, was implemented under the umbrella of PMKSY till March, 2022 and now being
implemented under Pradhan Mantri - Rashtriya Krishi Vikash Yojna (PM-RKVY). PDMC scheme
focuses on enhancing water use efficiency at the farm level through micro-irrigation techniques, namely
drip and sprinkler systems. Total central assistance of Rs 873.95 Crore has been provided to Telangana
under PDMC, out of which, Rs 194.63 Crore provided during the last three years.
(b) Central Water Commission (CWC) under Department of Water Resources, River Development
and Ganga Rejuvenation (DoWR, RD & GR) provides techno-economic appraisal of major and medium
irrigation projects. This includes assessment of water availability, examination of inter-State aspects,
irrigation planning, overall techno-economic viability of the project etc. It also monitors projects
included under ongoing schemes of DoWR, RD & GR for central assistance.
In addition, CWC extends technical support in formulation of projects and design-related aspects
at the request of the state government.
(c) Irrigation potential of 424.59 thousand hectare has been created under eleven (11) PMKSY-AIBP
projects in Telangana against their ultimate irrigation potential of 585.10 thousand hectare. Further,
micro irrigation has been developed in 385 thousand hectare area of Telangana under PDMC scheme
since 2015-16.
As informed by the Government of Telangana, within the command area of completed large
irrigation projects of the State, agricultural productivity increased by about 2.3 times.
