ANSWER
THE MINISTER OF STATE FOR JAL SHAKTI
(SHRI V. SOMANNA)
(a) to (d) As reported by the State of Tamil Nadu on JJM-IMIS, as on 18.03.2026, out of 12,523
Gram Panchayats in the State, 8,764 Gram Panchayats have been reported as Har Ghar Jal
(HGJ) while works in the remaining Gram Panchayats are at various stages of implementation.
Further, as reported on IMIS, out of a total of 21,433 schemes, 18,118 schemes have been
handed over to the community.
The State Government of Tamil Nadu has informed that implementation of JJM in Tamil Nadu
faces certain challenges, including absence of perennial rivers, presence of extensive hard rock
strata with less ground water sources and the fact that 57% of the blocks falls under over-
exploited, critical and semi-critical categories and 3% in saline region.
Further, the Union Cabinet has approved the extension of JJM upto December 2028, with
enhanced outlay to complete all ongoing works within a stipulated time.
