Government of India Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports Department of Sports LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 1253 TO BE ANSWERED ON 27.07.2026 Khelo India Infrastructure in Karnataka 1253. Dr. Prabha Mallikarjun: Will the Minister of YOUTH AFFAIRS AND SPORTS be pleased to state: (a) whether the Government has undertaken any assessment under schemes such as Khelo India, the National Sports Development Fund (NSDF) and other Central support programmes regarding the availability and adequacy of sports infrastructure in Karnataka, including semi-urban districts; (b) if so, the number of sports facilities available, district-wise; (c) whether gaps in infrastructure such as playgrounds, stadiums and training centres have been identified and if so, the details thereof; (d) the number of districts covered under Khelo India infrastructure development; and (e) the details of the funds allocated and utilised for sports infrastructure? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF YOUTH AFFAIRS & SPORTS [ DR. MANSUKH MANDAVIYA ] (a) to (e) ‘Sports’ being a State subject, the responsibility for development of sports, including assessment of availability and adequacy of sports infrastructure and identification of gaps in infrastructure such as playgrounds, stadiums and training centres, rests primarily with the respective State/Union Territory Governments. The Union Government supplements these efforts by bridging critical gaps. No such assessment by the State Government on above is received in Page 1 of 2this Ministry. The Khelo India Scheme and National Sports Development Fund (NSDF), implemented by this Ministry, under which financial assistance for development of sports infrastructure is provided are demand-driven schemes. The proposals received from the State/ Union Territory Governments and other eligible entities are considered for financial support, subject to their completeness, technical feasibility and availability of funds under the scheme. The details of the sports infrastructure projects approved and their sanctioned cost, funds released and their physical and financial progress, under the Khelo India Scheme and National Sports Development Funds (NSDF), across the country, including in State of Karnataka, are available in public domain on the dashboards of the Ministry at https://mdsd.kheloindia.gov.in and http://www.nsdf.yas.gov.in/nsdf-glance.html, respectively. ***** Page 2 of 2
