GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF RAILWAYS LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 4333 TO BE ANSWERED ON 18.03.2026 LONAVLA-PUNE-DAUND RAILWAY CORRIDOR FENCING WORK 4333. DR. AMOL RAMSING KOLHE: Will the Minister of RAILWAYS be pleased to state: (a) whether the Government has undertaken fencing works along trespassing-prone sections of the Lonavla–Pune–Daund railway corridor under jurisdiction of the Central Railway and if so, the details thereof; (b) the total length (in kilometers) identified for fencing in the said corridor, the cost per kilometer of fencing approved and total project cost sanctioned; (c) whether there has been any increase in the estimated project cost due to delay in execution and if so, the revised cost, reasons for delay and the agency responsible for same; (d) whether any safety audit has been conducted for trespassing-prone sections of the said corridor during the last three years and if so, the findings thereof; and (e) the details of the steps taken/proposed to be taken by the Government to fix accountability for delay and cost escalation, announce a time- bound completion schedule for fencing work and provide interim safety measures such as foot overbridges, subways/other protective infrastructure until the fencing work is completed? ANSWER MINISTER OF RAILWAYS, INFORMATION & BROADCASTING AND ELECTRONICS & INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (SHRI ASHWINI VAISHNAW) (a) to (e) Safety of train operations is accorded top priority on Indian Railways (IR). As one of the important safety measures, provision of safety fencing has been taken up on routes where the permitted speed of train operations exceeds 110 kmph, as well as at other vulnerable §locations, to prevent trespassing and ensure safe train operation. Pedestrian subways are also being provided with safety fencing in order to facilitate crossing of railway alignment by cattle, pedestrians and smaller vehicles. A work has been sanctioned costing ₹209.38 Cr for providing safety fencing in entire Lonavala-Pune-Daund route. Work includes construction of approximately 290 Km fencing with pedestrian subways. Tender has been awarded for entire length of the section and about 150 Km of fencing has been completed till date.
